National Youth Leadership Forum: Explore STEM to Host Post-Program Event in Collaboration with ACT: ENGAGE Your Future: Building a Pathway from Middle School to College and Career Success.

July 7, 2015

Washington D.C. - Parents of middle school students attending National Youth Leadership Forum: Explore STEM at Chicago’s Loyola College in July will have the chance to join a session on how to use their children’s ACT ENGAGE results to support their future success. As part of NYLF: Explore STEM , students will take the ACT ENGAGE assessment, which provides them with research-based insight that will help them better plan for their future.

Andrew Potter, Envision’s Chief Academic Officer, Nadia Dwight, ACT ENGAGE Program Manager and Jason Way of ACT Research will take parents through the learnings behind ACT ENGAGE and present ideas to help parents to continue nurturing the skills identified by ACT Engage as key to their child’s future success—in college, in a career, and in life.

“Envision’s inclusion of the ACT ENGAGE assessment tool in their program demonstrates the growing importance of non-cognitive skills to student success,” Ms. Dwight said. “Data from more than 10 years of research consistently shows that motivational and academic skills, social engagement, and self-management factors can predict college student engagement, performance, and degree completion. The ENGAGE assessment provides a personalized perspective on these behaviors, and is a valuable data point for students as they pursue their future success.”

Mr. Potter adds, “The vast majority of students are not completing post-secondary training on time and are saddled with additional debt and reduced career entry times. Envision chose to include ACT’s ENGAGE assessment in our programming because it provides students and their parents with personalized and research-based analysis that will enable them to prepare for success in high school, college, and beyond.”

NYLF Explore STEM is part of the Envision family of programs ( http://www.envisionexperience.com), which enables students of all ages to explore their interests and gain learning experiences beyond the classroom. Since 1985, Envision programs have served more than 500,000 students from more than 145 countries. Envision programs are designed to help students develop the leadership, scholarship and career skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive college and career landscape.
