Envision’s NYLF Explore STEM Provides Summer Learning for Dallas-Area Middle Schoolers

DALLAS, TX. (July 18, 2017) – Envision, a leading experiential education organization, is hosting its annual National Youth Leadership Forum, “Explore STEM,” July 24-29 at the University of Texas to 147 Dallas-area middle school students eager to get an early start on exploring a career as an innovator, engineer, doctor, software developer, mathematician or physicist.

“Explore STEM presents an invaluable opportunity for curious and high-achieving students to explore the frontiers of 21st century science and technology,” said Envision’s Chief Academic Officer, Andrew Potter. “Our program is designed to give these students a chance to match their enthusiasm for STEM—robotics, medical science, mathematics or physics--with a specific career in engineering, medicine or the aerospace industry. At the same time, they are creating life-long friendships with students with similar interests. Our goal is to equip them with the balance of social, technological and hands-on skills that will make them confident college students and professionals.”

During this six-day immersive experience, students learn by taking part in hands-on simulations, workshops, and competitions, and use their skills and knowledge as they plan to align with the program’s theme, "Mission to Mars.” Program highlights include:

• Former NASA astronauts as keynote speakers: Depending on the session they attend, students will either hear from NASA’s Captains Jerry Michael Linenger or Leroy Chiao. They will share their knowledge, experiences, and stories from their careers in space exploration.
  
  
• Computer Science Simulation: Through collaboration and interactive projects, students will design a mobile app to help people on Mars track their health and wellness.
  
  
• Engineering Simulation: Students will design and program a responsive robot using the latest tools, theories, and techniques. They will engage in a civil engineering simulation, designing a building using CAD software.
  
  
• Emergency Medical Simulation: Created in collaboration with wilderness medicine expert Dr. Paul Auerbach and simulation expert Dr. Rebecca Smith-Coggins, professors in the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Stanford University School of Medicine, this realistic simulation puts students in the position of first responders as they practice the clinical skills needed in a true-to-life emergency.
  
  
• Galaxy Labs: Allow students to explore computer science, engineering, or medicine and further and strengthen their knowledge and skills in these important and exciting fields.
