Envision’s NYLF Pathways to STEM Provides Summer Learning for Atlanta-Area Elementary Schoolers

July 30 - August 4 at Agnes Scott College, 3rd Through 5th Grade Students Get Hands-On Experience, Develop Leadership Skills & Learn Real-Life Application of STEM in Careers

ATLANTA, GA. (July 26, 2017) – Envision, a leading experiential education organization, is hosting its annual National Youth Leadership Forum, “Pathways to STEM,” July 30 – August 4 at Agnes Scott College to 189 Atlanta-area elementary school students, 3rd through 5th grade, eager to get an early start on exploring a career as an engineer, doctor, or forensic scientist.

“Pathways to STEM presents an invaluable opportunity for young, bright and forward-thinking elementary students to explore the frontiers of 21st century science and technology,” said Envision’s Chief Academic Officer, Andrew Potter. “Our goal with this younger group of Envision learners is to allow them to discover the many ways STEM is used in careers familiar to them, such as robotics, medicine and crime scene investigation and empower them to realize their potential in these fields and more. At the same time, they are creating life-long friendships with students with similar interests.”

During this six-day immersive experience, students learn by taking part in hands-on projects that encourage creativity, leadership and working as a team. Program highlights include:

  • Engineering Pathway: With the help of the mBot robot, students will gain an understanding of the engineering design process and principles and then use their newly acquired skills to build a robot and program it to perform several advanced tasks.

  • Medicine Pathway: Students will examine aspects of human anatomy, focusing on the circulatory system and the heart. Students will participate in dissecting a cow heart.

  • CSI Pathway: Using the building blocks of forensic science, such as finger print analysis, deductive reasoning, and case development, students will work together to uncover critical clues as they seek to identify the guilty party.
