About JrNYLC - 7th & 8th Grades
Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders Today
Start your leadership journey at the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC). During this six-day Envision program, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, or Washington, D.C., will serve as a living classroom for students as they develop leadership skills and enjoy the educational experience of a lifetime.
With a focus on influential figures from American history and social advocacy, JrNYLC is a program packed with fun and engaging site experiences as well as hands-on activities that bring the concepts and skills of effective leadership to life.
Through powerful workshops, group activities, and hands-on simulations, students will lay a foundation for critical thinking and leadership skills with an action plan for what they will accomplish during the conference, beginning with a Group Agreement.
Students will identify the leadership traits of influential figures to inform their own leadership attributes and build new ones during the daily reflection. They will also explore a case of intolerance and recognize the patterns and steps that lead to intolerance and discrimination in a lesson on tolerance. In the Facing the Music Simulation, young leaders will understand who has decision-making power and the best ways to affect change. Finally, students will exercise presentation skills to create an effective argument while examining First Amendment rights during the Peace Patch Protest workshop.
